777 Biotopflächen in der Steiermark durch Kauf gesichert
Seit Jahrzehnten bemüht sich der Steirische Naturschutzbund artenreiche und besondere Flächen wie Moore, Fluss-Altarme, Bach- und Flussränder, Auenwälder, Biotopholz-Standorte, Orchideenwiesen, Felsenhorste, Quellfluren etc. durch Kauf immerwährend zu sichern. Erst wenn man als Besitzer langfristig und zu jeder Entscheidung berechtigt, Flächen bewahren oder pfleglich erhalten kann, ist Naturschutz, speziell Artenschutz in allen Details umsetzbar. Allzu oft sieht man Flächen, die vertraglich für 20 Jahre Naturschutz-Programmen zugeführt werden, danach aber umgepflügt oder zerstört werden.
Blumenwiesen entfalten sich oft erst nach 30 Jahren extensiver Pflege, bei Wäldern, die wir als Urwälder der Zukunft sich selbst überlassen wollen, braucht die Natur Jahrhunderte, um ihren natürlichen Entwicklungslauf zu folgen. Ein großer Teil der Flächen wurde durch Förderungen des Landes Steiermark und der Europäischen Union insbesondere über das ELER-Programm gesichert.
Zwischenzeitlich übertrifft die Zahl von Flächen die durch Spendenmittel von Naturschützern erworben werden konnten, jene der öffentlichen Hand. Auch Firmen spenden als Flächenausgleich für versiegelte Bereiche im Rahmen der Aktion „1 m² genützt – 1 m² geschützt“. Schließlich sind es großzügige Grundstücksschenkungen und Erbschaften, die unser „Steirisches Naturerbe“ bereichern. Oft wollen Menschen ihnen bekannte artenreiche Naturflächen in die Obhut des Naturschutzbundes übergeben. Mit 50 Bauern werden unsere eigene Naturschutzflächen – gefördert von ÖPUL – extensiv bewirtschaftet und mit speziellen Fördergeldern,wie jene aus dem Biodiversitätsfonds optimiert. Mittelfristiges Ziel des Steirischen Naturschutzbundes ist es, 1000 Biodiversitätsflächen im Bundesland als Juwele der steirischen Natur zu erhalten.
Zu den 777 Projekten gehören die große blaue Iriswiese im Ennstal bei Trautenfels, der blumenreiche Trockenrasen bei St. Anna/Aigen und das Pichl-Moor im Ausseerland.
